This mild and sweet flavoured apple is widely grown in the USA. Ironically, the Gala apple was first developed in New Zealand in the 1930’s, as a cross between the Red Delicious and the Kidd Orange Red apples. It was introduced to the US in the 1970’s and is now the most popularly grown apple in the country. This multi-coloured apple (reddish, yellow, orange and sometimes pale pink) is loaded with calories, Dietary Fibre, Carbohydrates and Sugar.
