Nutmeg is a light brown seed of a fruit from the Nutmeg tree. The seed is covered by a red coloured vein-like shell called aril or mace, which turns light brown after drying. This unique but potent spice, is primarily used to add flavour when grated (ground) to baked products, beverages, and porridges. With its roots traced back to over 3,500 years to the Islands of Indonesia, Nutmeg is currently grown in commercial volumes in the Caribbean “Spice Island” of Grenada. The spice is said to decrease inflammation, improve heart and brain health and improves digestion.
